--One closely watched story line will be Hamlin's attempt to rally for a title-run spot after missing parts of five races with the broken vertebra. Since his full-time return, Hamlin has two top-five finishes and has moved up seven spots in the standings to 24th.
Hamlin would have to make it into the top 20 and win at least one race to be eligible for a Chase for the Sprint Cup wild-card spot — which seems possible with 14 races remaining before the cutoff. But there's suddenly an unexpected problem for Hamlin: teammate Kyle Busch.
Busch had been cruising through the early part of the season after hiccups in the first two weeks, winning at Auto Club Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway and moving to second in the standings. But after finishing 24th or worse in four of the last five races, Busch is 11th in points and in one of the two wild-card spots.
